[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] out indefinitely with sinus fractures[/b]
The Ducks face the possibility of another extended absence by captain [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] after he was ruled out indefinitely Friday because of the nasal sinus fractures caused when he was hit in the forehead by a puck Tuesday.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] was examined by a maxillofacial surgeon Friday and underwent another CT scan that showed the fractures are nondisplaced and stable,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a positive sign. But doctors decided more evaluation over the next few days is necessary before the probable length of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]'s absence is determined.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Ducks' first-line center and second-leading scorer, sat out 16 games last season because of injury, 12 of them because of a severe ankle sprain that threatened to keep him out of the Olympics.
"I think it helps with some of your younger players knowing they can win without Getzy," Ducks Coach Randy Carlyle said.
Ducks get Lapierre
The Ducks acquired Maxim Lapierre, a 6-foot-2, 207-pound center with what Carlyle called "the ability to agitate," from Montreal for defenseman Brett Festerling and a fifth-round draft pick in 2012.
Lapierre, 25, was a 15-goal scorer two seasons ago but had five goals, eight points and 63 penalty minutes for Montreal this season as his playing time dwindled.
"I asked if I was part of their plans and they pretty much said no," Lapierre said by telephone before traveling to join the Ducks in time for Sunday's game against Chicago at the Honda Center.
"This is a new start for me."
