Fire burns jewelry store on Univ. Ave. in Provo
Fire crews battled a structure fire early Thursday morning at a Provo jewelry store.According to battalion chief Gary Jolley, crews responded to the fire at 5:53 a.m. after a passerby noticed smoke and called authorities. University Ave. -- housed a jewelry store and served at different times in the past as the offices of the Deseret News and KUTV Channel 2 News.
Jolley said that by 6:08 a.m. the fire was under control. He explained that crews first fought the blaze from the outside of the building, then shifted to the interior.
"We did a real aggressive attack," he said.Jolley said damage to the building would likely come in at well over $10,000, with fire damage to the upstairs, as well as smoke and water damage throughout the building."There's significant damage done [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] to the building," he said, "especially to the jewelry business."
