India's largest low-cost carrier IndiGo has signed a memorandum of understanding for the purchase of 180 Airbus A320 aircraft, of which 150 will be A320neos and 30 ordinary A320s, the French seller Airbus said on Tuesday.
"It is the largest single firm order number for large jets in commercial aviation history, and also makes IndiGo a launch customer for the A320neo [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," the European leading plane maker said in a statement.
A320neo, planned to be launched in 2016, is a new model with more efficient engines and large wing tip devices called Sharklets. Airbus said A320neo can reduce engine noise and cut fuel consumption up to 15 percent, which means lower CO2 and NOx emission annually per aircraft.
