Today, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that the iOS 4.1 update will be available next week. This new release will include a fix for the iPhone 4 proximity sensor bug amongst many other bug fixes.
One of the big features that will be available is Game Center. This is an app that will allow you to experience online gaming on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. This new app has been designed to be integrated with third party games. What does that mean to you? For developers, it means that iOS 4 will include GameKit APIs that allows them to create apps that will bring social gaming capabilities to their latest creations. For the consumer, it means that you will be able to experience a social network for iOS games and it will include leader boards and matchmaking capabilities.

We shall see what Google does given they recently acquired a social gaming company with hopes to bolster Android as a gaming platform.
The iOS 4.1 software also brings new photo features. The latest version now includes a feature called High Definition Range (HDR). This HDR feature will make your iPhone even better because your photos will have better light capture and a very crisp contrast.

Steve Jobs announced that iOS 4.2 will be available later this year and it will be all about the iPad, including multi-tasking, wireless printing and iTunes streaming for videos and audio.
