As mentioned by PadGadget last week, Apple and News Corp recently teamed up to launch a new newspaper publication exclusively for the iPad,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], expected to be released early next month.
The introduction of the magazine will also bring a new API to the table, designed to allow newspaper outlets to finally be able to offer recurring subscriptions via iTunes – small but important detail,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the API is not part of the iOS update iPad, iPhone and iPod owners downloaded yesterday.
According to MacStories, rumor has it that Apple was initially planning to release a new iteration of iOS, unsurprisingly dubbed iOS 4.3, on Monday, December 13th. The new release was expected to specifically address the subscription API issue, however, that plan has since been put in temporary hiatus, given the fact that the release of iOS 4.2 was pushed back several weeks due to last minute issues that needed to be fixed.
It is still unclear whether Apple will be able to put its plan back on track to be able to launch iOS 4.3 in three weeks as initially expected, or not. The 4.2.1 issues caused unexpected delays, but Apple is under a great deal of pressure to bring subscriptions to iOS devices users, and is without any doubt working double shift to bring the update to the iOS community before the end of the year.
As usual, we’re eagerly waiting for Apple to start distributing iOS 4.3 seeds to its developers to better gauge when the update will actually be available.
