Jets [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] sale picking up
(By Yomi : [link widoczny dla zalogowanych])
Jets fans [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] got a big lift Sunday after their team defeated the New England Patriots in the American Football Conference divisional playoffs, and that's good news for local sports apparel stores [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] wholesale.
Donna Peterson with apparel at Modell's Sporting Goods. Sunday's win was such an upset that production was probably not ramped up, one expert said.
Retailers in the North NFL Jersey region said Monday they are seeing a pickup in sales of hats, T-shirts and $80 jerseys — especially No. 6 Mark Sanchez jerseys — and they expect to get more delivered over the next few days.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Sanchez seems like pretty good, genuine guy. It’s actually pretty hard to find anyone who has anything bad to say about Sanchez the person, though plenty of people have criticized his QB play.
Probably the most poignant and powerful example of Sanchez’s humanity and big heart is the story of he and Aiden Binkley. A few quick excerpts:[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]

Sanchez and Aiden Binkley, 11, met each other only a few weeks ago, but they became fast friends. Binkley was suffering from a rare form of cancer, and he had only two wishes — he wanted his two brothers to stay healthy and he wanted to meet Sanchez [link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The 24-year-old quarterback was immediately taken by Aiden and his upbeat personality and his love of the Jets. A few days later, Sanchez & Co. beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh — the biggest win of the season — and Sanchez sent his new friend a game ball.
Sanchez was deeply touched by Aiden, who battled rhabdomyosarcoma, according to a 2008 New York Daily News article. There was a lemon-sized tumor that spread from his pelvis to his lungs, and he required 60 weeks of chemotherapy.
They became texting buddies and, one day, Sanchez surprised Aiden’s parents by asking, “Can I come over?” When Sanchez arrived,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the boy was sleeping. Sanchez sat at Aiden’s feet, waiting until he woke up.
“[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] He opened his eyes and there was Mark, sitting on the couch,” Lisa said. “He was so sweet.”
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Keith Sullivan, an Atlas Foundation board member, was struck by Sanchez’s sincerity . In that initial meeting, Sanchez and Aiden exchanged cell phone numbers, with Sanchez telling the boy, “I’ll shoot you a text later. We’ll talk.” And Sullivan hoped it wasn’t just lip service, a millionaire athlete trying to appease a starstruck kid.“Aiden had a smile on his face for the last three weeks of his life [link widoczny dla zalogowanych],” Sullivan said.
It’s hard to read the story without getting a bit teary-eyed. These are the kinds of acts we all want to see professional athletes doing. It’s not to say that Sanchez is the only NFL player, or even the only one out of these four, who would go out of his way to make a sick kid’s final days better; surely others have done the same. But there is just something about this story, at least the way it’s been reported, that seems so genuine and uncontrived, as if the relationship really did mean as much to Sanchez as it did to Aiden Binkley, and it matches what we’ve seen from the likable Sanchez during his two years in the league.

He’s got a long way to go to be an elite quarterback, but a brash coach and a team of Super Bowl-ready veterans believe in him despite his ups and downs. That should tell us all a lot about his character and leadership qualities. Oh, and he’s 4-1 in the playoffs, all on the road. We like our QBs to be clutch, and Sanchez has proven that he can be just that [link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"Everybody's getting hyped up," said Sandy Goldberg, manager of Modell's Sporting Goods in Woodland Park. "We'll be having a strategy conference call today or tomorrow with the corporate office to find out what merchandise we'll be receiving and figure out the game plan for next Sunday," he said.
Miguel Alfaro, manager of The Sports Authority in Hoboken, said he is expecting to receive later this week more jerseys bearing the names of Jets quarterback Sanchez, wide receiver Santonio Holmes, defensive back Darrelle Revis and running back LaDainian Tomlinson. "We are also getting more novelty items like car flags and magnets," he said.
The stakes for local retailers will get higher should the Jets win the conference championship this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which would prompt hasty production and distribution of commemorative merchandise.
"[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Listen, Jets fans have been starved for a long time so they will be buying up whatever they can," said Frank Vuono, partner at 16W Marketing in Rutherford. The team's 28-21 victory over New England was such a long-shot bet that it's not likely that production was ramped up very much in advance [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he said.
