Menegakis predicting winning evening
Conservative candidate Costas Menegakis is predicting his Richmond Hill riding campaign [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] will be a winner tonight.Calling today “a day of reflection” on the last six weeks of campaigning; the father of two said he is on “pins and needles” awaiting tonight’s election results.“I believe I will win. I wouldn’t have my name out there if I didn’t think that was possible,” said Mr. Menegakis this afternoon.
“I have been humbled and encouraged by the support I’ve received throughout the community, so I’m feeling good, feeling cautiously optimistic,” added the Markham resident.
Mr. Menegakis’ campaign involved fending off rumours of past Liberal allegiances and accusations that his resignation last year from the presidency of the Greek Community of Toronto, left the group in financial hardship, following the collapse of a community [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] centre project.Despite some of these rumours being spread by election opponents, he said, Mr. Menegakis commented he and his team can be proud they ran a “clean campaign”.“I have nothing bad to say about the men who are my opponents, though I believe their platforms are very weak and flawed,” said Mr. Menegakis, who sent flyers throughout the riding this weekend, slamming Liberal incumbent Bryon Wilfert, stating Mr. Wilfert “refused to stand up for victims of crime in Richmond Hill”.
The election rookie said he wanted to stay positive and not run to the media, despite having many of his election signs destroyed and his campaign office “attacked” during the campaign.“My office (on Yonge Street) and van with my picture on it were egged and tomatoes thrown at them two weeks ago. We could have pointed fingers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but we tried to stay positive,” said Mr. Menegakis, adding that he did file a report regarding the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] vandalism to police.“I didn’t want to waste my time spreading rumours. What was important was getting mine and my party’s message out and we achieved that. How that resonated with voters; your guess is as good as mine right now”.
