MLB million-dollar competition
From ( [link widoczny dla zalogowanych])
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Last year, a 23-year-old gamer from Alabama named Wade McGilberry won $1 million playing "MLB 2k10." That's right, a cool mil playing a video game [link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Today, 2K Sports announced that the million-dollar perfect-game promotion is back on for "Major League Baseball 2011," but this time there are some changes to the rules.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] McGilberry added all those zeros to his bank account by being the first person to throw a perfect game in "2K10," and he did it by pitching with, of all people, Kenshin Kawakami. ( [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] )
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] So why don't Goodell and his advisors go into a room with NFL PA executive director DeMaurice Smith, lock the door and not come out until they reach an agreement?
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Its more than just going into the room, said Goodell, who said there has not been a negotiation session in three weeks. Youve got to get a commitment that youre going to reach an agreement in the time period. Theres a lot of rhetoric, there are a lot of positions, a lot of different strategies Ive always said its got to come down to the negotiating table. I hope the union will get to the table and well be able to resolve the differences.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] One of the lightning rods in the negotiations is the leagues desire to implement an 18-game regular season and reduce the exhibition season by two games. Those two games can produce more revenue than preseason games, which will benefit the players paychecks. But two extra games will take a toll on players who absorb a beating during the 16-game season [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] .
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Youre not adding, its still a 20-game schedule, Goodell says. The quality of those preseason games has gone down because the players arent playing, the games are meaningless, and in the environment like we are now, theres much more a desire on the fans part to create value, to have quality. They dont want to continue to pay for something that is not representing quality.
Some players are balking on having to play two more games, and considering the pounding they take, adding games seems to contradict the NFLs emphasis on player safety [link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Its a negotiation, Goodell said. We all should keep that in mind. The issues of player safety are always going to be first priority, whether its a 20-game format or some other format.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] They get a percentage of all the revenue, and we need to make sure were doing what we can so that its growing opportunity for the league and the players, because they get a majority of that.
Some of the fans who attended the meeting were impressed with what they heard from Goodell.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] I thought it was pretty informative, said Ronnie Tilgman of Kansas City. He was forthright in his answers. He said up front, theres not a lot of negotiations going on, and it concerns me.
( [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ) are going to be asking for money in a few months for next season, and Im wondering, Are we playing? What am I giving you money for? Youre talking about thousands of dollars.
Goodell also touched on several other subjects.
On the NFL's television blackout rule: Goodell said ensuring sellouts allows the NFL to keep their games on free television. Were the only league to be able to do that, he said [link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
