Last year, was the first that the Fair Housing Council of Oregon conducted discrimination tests in Corvallis. The nonprofit has been hired by cities to do the tests since 2009.
The council’s testers used listings in the local newspaper and online [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] sources (including Craigslist) to find landlords and rental agents that clearly indicated that they had vacancies. The test included a range of high-rent and low-rent living spaces.
The 30 calls in the 15 tests were a double-blind. The landlord or agent did not know, and never will, that they were contacted for the test. The one other protected class that the Fair Housing Council of Oregon has [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] tested extensively across the state is race, using an African American tester. The council does tests both over the phone and in person, but only used phone tests in Corvallis last year.
