Historically, pump prices have declined after Labor Day.
Yuba City continues to have California’s lowest market wide average price for a gallon of gas. On Christmas Eve, it’s $3.224, up 2 cents since last Friday, the AAA says.
The escalating price of crude, blamed variously on China’s surging economy or speculators, does not bode well for the new year, as the cost of crude makes up roughly 71 percent of the price of a gallon of gas, according to the Energy Information Administration.
This week’s highest price listed by GasBuddy is $3.79 found at gas stations in Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Needles.
