I’m sick … and not in the new-age cool connotation. Coughing, choking, sniffling, runny nose, headache, congestion. Fun stuff. You outta try it sometime.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] owners can safely drop him in leagues of 16-player rosters or shallower. He’s worth stashing in deep leagues, but the moment you find yourself in need of a cut, you know who will be given his walking papers. · The Packers were my pick right after the 2010 NFL Draft to win it all, but injuries have really messed with their chances. I know I wasn’t going out on a limb there, but I had them beating the Baltimore Ravens 28-24. The Ravens still look like legit contenders, and Green Bay has a reasonable chance of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] turning things around. It’s not like they are 0-5, after all.
Also lost in all of that: Shawne Merriman is unofficially done as a Charger, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is probably done for the year (fantasy version, at least), Jerome Harrison‘s fantasy value may have decreased – if that was actually possible – and Mel Kiper Jr. is being dragged through the mud, but his hair still looks great!
I wouldn’t be shocked if Merriman wound up the Buffalo Bills (six sacks in five games), Kansas City Chiefs (nine sacks in four games) or Miami Dolphins (nine sacks in four games). All three teams employ a 3-4 base defense, but I don’t see Buffalo as a likely landing spot. It could come down to commitment, though,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], because Merriman felt the Chargers weren’t married to him in recent years. I could see Merriman signing with the first team that shows him a little extra love, even if a bottom of the barrel team, such as Buffalo, comes a knockin’. He has a tie with Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips, whose defense has racked up a whopping nine sacks in four games.
A dark horse here is the Baltimore Ravens. They are a Super Bowl-ready team and are in need of a pass rusher. Merriman doesn’t seem to have the burst he once displayed, and injuries persistently plague him.
Shawne Merriman, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], an RB swap and more
· I don’t know what to think of Harrison right now. The Philadelphia Eagles sent running back Mike Bell to the Cleveland Browns for the inconsistent rusher. Harrison isn’t all that different from LeSean McCoy (ribs), who is playing out of his mind right now (shameless plug: He was one of KFFL’s preseason sleepers.), [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and the former Brown has to learn a far more advanced version of the West Coast system than he learned this offseason. Bell, on the other hand, probably gains value, because I don’t see Peyton Hillis (thigh) keeping it up the rest of the way. James Davis may be the biggest short-term winner in all of this.
Through all of the tissues, Dayquil, Chloraseptic’s green death flavor and finally somewhat muted misery, I’ve had to concentrate on a wild week in the NFL, and it’s only Wednesday. TO and Chad have a show together, which is easily better than either of their individual programs. Jerry Jones continues to give Wade Phillips a lukewarm vote of confidence, the San Diego Chargers are still cycling through long snappers like Hugh Hefner is 20-somethings, and the Brett Favre scandal speculation is going strong.
· Disgraced former agent Josh Luchs has accused ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. of doing agent Gary Wichard a favor by ranking Wichard’s clients higher than he should have to entice NFL teams on draft day. Kiper denies the claims.
I’m possibly way off-base, but I guess [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] I assumed most all NFL draft analysts with connections to agents returned the back scratching. After all, isn’t that how the political game is played in this world? I don’t really see this being a huge problem, because no NFL scouting department should be relying on Kiper or the like for the team’s prospect grades.
