(CNN) -- Cycling's earth governing body is to appeal to sport's maximum tribunal against the Spanish federation's decision to acquit three-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador of a doping charge.
"The International Cycling Union today (Thursday) determined apt entreat to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne against the Spanish Cycling Federation's (RFEC) finding in the circumstance of Alberto Contador,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," peruse a statement on the UCI's official website.
"He was acquitted after testing positive as clenbuterol during an in-competition test carried out on 21st July 2010," it added.
The UCI's decision comes on the last available day they could refer the stuff to the CAS, mentioning it had decided to appeal "after an in-depth study of the file received from the RFEC."

He was handed a provisional one-year ban along his own association, but they repealed that decision last month and removed him to compete.
