At a press event in New York today, Verizon President and CEO Lowell McAdam announced that the company would start selling the iPhone 4. The phone will be available on February 10th, 2011 at both the Apple Store and Verizon Wireless centers. Existing Verizon customers can pre-order the phone on February 3, 2011.
The stats for the phone are identical to the one already available on the AT&T Network, with the following differences:
The Verizon iPhone uses CDMA technology,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and will only work on their network
The Verizon iPhone is hotspot capable, meaning users can tether their computers to it for wireless access.
The phone will run only on Verizon’s 3G network. No mention was made of LTE capacity (Verizon’s new next generation network) or when such capability would be available.
The price remains the same as the AT&T,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], $199 for the 16GB model, and $299 for the 32 GB with a 2 year contract.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs did not make an appearance. Apple was represented onstage by COO Tim Cook,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who said Apple was incredibly excited to bring the iPhone 4 to Verizon’s 93 million customers.
Apple will maintain control of the device: updates will be available from the company, and the phone carries no Verizon branding.
