Evansville resident Dan Pearson and Pearson's two sons made that type of decision on the morning of Thursday, April 28, when they, like most of the world, awakened to the devastation in four Southern states, following a record-outbreak of tornadoes that ripped through Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Tennessee.
By noon on Thursday, the four were on the road, having already been to Rural King for supplies -- which the store apparently gave to them at a discount -- such as tarps,

chain saws and water."Honestly, I don't know why I went, I just had to go," Lilly said."For me, it was because there were so many who were suffering ... just the magnitude," Pearson said.
As they reached the Tennessee-Alabama border, Lilly and Pearson said evidence of the storm's path began to take shape."Trees were toppled, laying over in both directions," Pearson said."But that didn't prepare me," Lilly said.The shock of what the storm left behind began to spark in Cullman, Ala., they said.There, the group worked to help residents by placing tarps on roofs and clearing driveways.
