He joins Steve Baumgartner, a second-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in 1973 who played seven seasons for the Saints and Houston Oilers, as the only Redwings to reach the NFL (kicker John Duvic was briefly a replacement player for the Bears during the 1987 players strike, but that is not counted as active service by the league). <br />NEW CHALLENGES <br />Indeed, LeFevour was thrilled by being drafted by his home town team. <br />LeFevour appeared in all four preseason games for the Bears, completing 19 of 41 passes for 204 yards, one touchdown and one interception. But after the Bears signed veteran Todd Collins to back up Jay Cutler and Caleb Hanie, they released LeFevour a week before the regular season started. <br />The western suburbs have produced several NFL quarterbacks. Chuck Long,<a href="http://www.cheapnflwholesalejerseys.com" target="_blank" class="postlink">kids nfl jerseys</a>, a 1981 Wheaton North alum, was runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 1985 while at Iowa and later played for the Detroit Lions. LeFevour is Cincinnati&rsquo;s third-string quarterback behind starter Carson Palmer and Palmer&rsquo;s brother, Jordan. Everyone [in Downers Grove] has been so supportive of Dan.” <br />Though he was lightly recruited, LeFevour said directing Benet&rsquo;s run-oriented offense helped him develop his quick feet, which he used with unprecedented success at the college level. And he never lost his ambition. <br />COLLEGE STAR <br />TURNING PRO <br />The toughest part of playing in the NFL is something LeFevour said most fans don&rsquo;t have a feel for. <br />LeFevour faced some big adjustments coming out of college. After operating out of the shotgun in the spread offense at Central Michigan, LeFevour had to get used to taking more snaps from under center in the Bengals&rsquo; pro-style passing offense. But he had a mentor in Jordan Palmer, who made a similar adjustment after running the spread at UTEP. <br />“It&rsquo;s the speed of the game,<a href="http://www.cheapnfljerseysonsale.com/nfl-jerseys-youth-nfl-jerseys-c-1_154.html" target="_blank" class="postlink">kids jerseys</a>,” he said. “You think you have a feel for the speed of it,<a href="http://www.cheapnflwholesalejerseys.com" target="_blank" class="postlink">wholesale nfl jerseys</a>, but it&rsquo;s a lot faster than it appears on TV. It&rsquo;s something you can&rsquo;t [prepare for] until you experience it.” <br />FUTURE PROSPECTS <br />But Goforth predicts LeFevour will stick in the NFL. <br />“It was definitely a surprise,” LeFevour said. “They tell you that it never works out that you&rsquo;re drafted by the team you want to be drafted by. It set me up for success.” <br />That was primarily because he played in a run-oriented offense at Benet,<a href="http://www.cheapnflwholesalejerseys.com" target="_blank" class="postlink">pro bowl</a>, which he led to two playoff appearances in 2003 and 2004. The Redwings advanced to the quarterfinals in LeFevour&rsquo;s junior year,<a href="http://www.cheapnfljerseysonsale.com/nfl-jerseys-minnesota-vikings-c-1_33.html" target="_blank" class="postlink">Vikings jerseys</a>, losing to St. Rita 28-20. They lost 26-14 in the first round to Batavia the following season. LeFevour is the school&rsquo;s all-time career touchdown leader with 54. <br />“But I will say this—I always tell people I thought he was the best quarterback in the state coming out [of high school],” Goforth said. “[College] recruiters look at big schools first, perennial powers second and systems third. We ran a running offense and Dan directed it very well. <br />Another thing fans may not realize is the preparation that goes into getting ready for Sundays. <br />LeFevour, 23, has already experienced much in a football career that began at Benet Academy and continued at Central Michigan. A graduate of St. Mary of Gostyn elementary school, LeFevour starred in football and basketball at Benet, but during his prep days few people anticipated he would one day make the <a href="http://www.nflwholesalejerseys.net" target="_blank" class="postlink">NFL jerseys wholesale</a>. <br />Will LeFevour be as successful as those four? <br />“I think it&rsquo;s cool,<a href="http://www.cheapnfljerseysonsale.com/nfl-slippers-c-205.html" target="_blank" class="postlink">chicago bears slippers</a>,” Goforth said of having a former player reach the NFL. “It couldn&rsquo;t happen to a nicer kid.
