CES is packed with great audio gear. There are always a ton of headphones, but I’m talking about accessories to help you make music. Stuff like microphones and accessories that help you create. Here’s what I found to be the most interesting products that can be used with iOS devices.
IK Multimedia
IK Multimedia is showcasing their iKlip, iRig Mic and VocaLive app. We’ve known about the iKlip for a while, but it was nice to see it in person. It’s essentially a desktop iPad mic stand. It’s perfect for musician’s who use their iPad as an instrument processor, recording device or for sheet music.
But the iRig Mic was the newest product for IK. It’s a microphone specifically designed to be used with an iOS device.
It plugs into your headphone port and still allows the connection of headphones. It has a switch with three gain settings so you can tune it to your current volume needs. Obviously, they recommend that you use their app, VocaLive. It’s similar to AmpliTube, in that it takes an instrument (your voice) and allows you to apply up to three effects. It has multitrack recording capabilities, can import songs from your iPod library to sing along to and more. And if you prefer to live in the AmpliTube app exclusively, you’ll be able to buy these features via an in-app purchase in the future. Very cool all around.
Samson
Samson has a brand new USB mic dripping with style called the Meteor mic. It looks similar to the type of thing you could imagine Elvis singing into, though a bit different.
It has three legs that fold up to cover the sides of the mic. But they also hold their position relatively well, so you can use them to position the mic at just the right angle. There’s a USB connection and a headphone port for easy monitoring. Better yet, this mic doesn’t draw much power at all and is said to work quite nicely with an iPad via the Camera Connection Kit. The Meteor mic will be available this Spring, and we’ll be sure to take a closer look at it then.
Griffin
Griffin’s newest products on the audio front are the StompBox and Mic Stand Mount for iPad. The StompBox for iPad is a four switch stompbox controller with expression pedal input. It works with iShred Live to allow you to easily turn on and off specific effects and control some parameters with the expression pedal. It’s definitely the next step forward in iOS guitar accessories,

, but I think it’s being held back by the app. I’m hoping IK Multimedia has something similar in the works.
The Mic Stand Mount for iPad is very similar to IK’s iKlip. Again, it’s a desktop mic stand that holds an iPad. You don’t really need to be using your iPad for musical purposes to get use out of these though, as it would be an excellent desktop stand.
StompBox for iPad will be available first quarter for $99.99 and the Mic Stand Mount for iPad will be available this month for $39.99.
ION Audio
If you’re the DJ type, then you have no doubt heard of Algoriddim’s DJay app for iPad. It’s a phenomenal app that allows to do everything you’d need to be able to do to mix songs like a pro at your next party via an iPad. The interface is great, but if you’re looking to get physical,

, Ion Audio has a controller that plugs right into your iPad to do just that. It’s just like Ion Audio’s other DJ gear for Mac and PC. You have sliders, knobs and two decks to scratch and mix to your heart’s (or iPod’s) content.
On a less iOS related note, there’s quite a bit more great audio gear here at CES. Gibson is showcasing some pretty sweet robotic guitars,

, Blue has their Yeti Pro microphone that is set to be the next best mic available, there’s a crazy 100% digital guitar called the Kitara (it has a touch screen and runs Linux), YouRockGuitar is back with a new model of midi guitar and guitar controller, ION Audio has some cool iPad musical keyboards…
...Hercules has some new DJ controllers as well and there’s just so much more. This isn’t NAMM, but there are still enough audio products to get excited about.
