When Prince William marries Kate Middleton on April 29th, one of the guests will be wearing a Boca woman’s creation and it’s a real feather in this designer’s cap."My fingers hats just itch to make something," explained Carina Gatto.Twenty years ago, Carina Gatto started her hat business. Today, her shop in Boca Raton, Hats Etcetera, is still outfitting well-dressed women. "I learned growing up from my mother,” said Gatto. “Our house was always filled with feathers and flowers and never a place to sit … always hats all over the place."Gatto, who still uses the 100 year old wooden forms her mother once used to create hats, loves the creative process of designing a hat. She often gets her best ideas hatsin the middle of the night."It just happens,” she explained, snapping her fingers. “It's in your fingers. There's nothing like folding the silk and ribbons and just getting a hat together."Her newest creation isn't just any hat. It's going to the royal wedding. “I couldn't believe it,” she laughed. “That will really be my crown and glory. That will be so, so fabulous to do that."Gatto has not identified her customer, only saying she’s a “very pretty and very petite” lady. The hat, a small dove grey and petal pink design with peacock feather spines dyed to match, was made to coordinate with her clothes, like all of Gatto's designs.“She came in with her outfit and we looked around and I thought a small hat would be best for her. Also,Car Battery, when you’re traveling over there, you don’t want to go with an enormous hats hatbox,” she explained. “The small whimsies, the Fascinators, they call them in England, are so popular right now. Everyone wants them with the feathers and the spikes and just in the most delicious colors you can make them."
