| Vampires, Evil Vermin of Death or Long Suffering Heroes?
Gosh, it used to be so simple to fight the blight of vampirism. First, they all lived in a country far away in a place called Transylvania and they all had very thick accents Hypnotize as not to be confused with a regular guy.Bela Lugosi’s vampire only wanted to suck your blood. He made no bones about it. He would invite you to his home for dinner, set a beautiful table with first rate cuisine and then he would sit and watch his guests eat, because of course, vampires only need the sustenance of blood.How rude.Contrived and dire circumstances would mysteriously arise. This would necessitate the guests to stay the night,VCI Paper, giving the evil monster opportunity to hypnotize the weakest female, and the blood sucking would ensue. Then we had Christopher Lee’s Dracula with a series of Hammer Films Hypnotize with the same formula, only the dastardly deeds were a bit more graphic on screen.Enter Dr. Van Helsing, vampire scholar and tracker. Some are very good and others are just plain silly.Wesley Snipes (Blade) turned our vampire into Ninja Warrior Vampire. His sidekick in the movie was country singer Kris Kristofferson and Kristofferson’s character had developed a serum to suppress the vampire’s lust for blood.Of course everyone knows there is no cure, good grief! Blood and guts throughout the Snipes movie made it impossible for me to watch anyway.Countless vampire manifestations have been portrayed in movies over the years but few have stayed true to the Count Dracula persona with the exception of perhaps, Francis Ford Coppola’s “Bram Stoker’s Dracula.”Currently, we are left with teenaged vampires. Buffy, where are you when we need you?As if teenagers did not have enough angst to overcome, now they must deal with a long line of vampirism within the family and with the exception of Van Helsing vanquishing Hypnotize a few of their ancestors, vampires live forever so that is a really long and straight line!The tortured, teenaged vampire is the latest incarnation.Our heroine of this new age saga can’t be hypnotized. She’s dark and morose, strong and independent and has the good vampires to protect her from the bad vampires.She does not want to vanquish them, she wants to become one of them! And the only character that comes close to the Van Helsing character is a friendly werewolf. That’s right, a werewolf. Oh dear, it was so much simpler when they were all bad.
